WHAT WE PROVIDE
Teaching & Learning
Our classroom programmes are designed to cater for and fully extend all students, academically, socially and across a broad range of endeavours. We promote responsibility, respect, confidence, honesty, and self-discipline throughout our school community.
The focus on literacy and numeracy success is complemented by Informations Communications Technology, te reo Māori and tikanga, special needs assistance and enrichment, gifted and talented programmes, and regular physical education to grow healthy minds and bodies.
Environment
Our colourful facilities reflect Awapuni School's friendly atmosphere. We treat everyone equally and address individual needs and concerns in a proactive manner. Using our own tried and tested behaviour expectations we have created a safe school environment. Positive behaviour is rewarded and parents are well informed of any misdemeanours
Extra Curriculars
We have participation opportunities in a variety of summer and winter sporting teams. Children can also join our successful kapa haka group.
Bilingual Opportunities
In our immersion classes the majority of instructions is delivered in te reo Māori, meeting the Ministry of Education's immersion levels for bilingual teaching. A strong emphasis on the Māori world view and tikanga are taught and practiced in the curriculum.
Units of taught work are based on Māori context and assessment practices, and also use English to prepare children to enter Monrad Intermediate's bilingual classes. Whanau involvement is strongly encouraged and welcomed.
