ENROLMENT

Enrolling your Child

If you are wishing to enrol your child at our kura, please visit us in the office and we'll provide an enrolment pack with all the necessary forms to fill in. Alternatively, parents/caregivers can pre-enrol future students at Awapuni Primary School using our online form

Pre-enrolling in advance helps to prepare us for your child's intended start date and ensure we have everything in place for an easy transition into the classroom and our school community.

We will arrange a time for you to come in for an initial visit, where you will be able to ask any questions you may have and we can learn more about your child in preparation for their start. You will also have the opportunity to look around the school if you have not done so already.

Important: Parents of five-year-old children, and children who are new to New Zealand, must bring in their child’s birth certificate or passport to verify their date of birth. It is also essential you provide a copy of your child’s immunisation records – usually noted in their Well Child book or requested from your family doctor.

Please note; confirmation of your enrolment will only be given once all supporting documents have been received.

New Entrant School Visits

Pre-enrolling New Entrants in advance helps to prepare us for your child's intended start date and ensure we have everything in place for an easy transition into the classroom and our school community.

We suggest contacting the school office at least 6 weeks before your child's 5th birthday to arrange dates for their school visits. This allows enough time for at least 4 visits in the Piwaiwaka classroom to introduce them to their teacher, familiarise with the classroom environment, and with the pattern of a normal school day.

Visit day timeframes:

  1. 8:45 am - 11:20 am       (Morning only)

  2. 8:45 am - 11:20 am       (Morning only)

  3. 8:45 am - 1:10 pm         (Half day)

  4. 8:45 am - 3:00 pm         (Full day)

Mihi Whakatau / Pōwhiri (Formal Welcome)

As a part of our school policy, we have a Mihi Whakatau to welcome any new students and their whanau to Awapuni Primary School before their first day.

  • This is held on a Friday afternoon at 2:30pm, prior to their first day on the following Monday.

  • Students that are joining us after the school holiday break will have their Mihi Whakatau on the first day of term at 9:00am.

  • On the arranged day, please come to the office to let us know you are here at least 10 minutes before we start.

Uniforms

School uniforms can be purchased from Academy Apparel, 82 Broadway Avenue. The current uniform price list for 2023 can be downloaded here.

  • Shoes:  Students may wear any shoes that are sensible for school. We recommend sneakers are worn on days with planned outdoor activities.

  • Sunhats:  To keep our tamariki safe during summer, bucket hats are compulsory for all students in Term 1 and Term 4.

Please ensure to clearly name all uniform clothing so they can be easily identified if misplaced – fleece jerseys and sunhats in particular! Lost property items are handed into the office until reunited with their owners.

Stationery

Stationery items can be purchased from Warehouse Stationery in store or online. You can find each classroom's stationery list by visiting the school lists page on the website, and searching for our school:  Awapuni School (P. North)
