NAU MAI HAERE MAI

We have had four new pupils start, Jasmine Tawhiti (younger sister of Stanley), Sahara, Watson-Tipoki, Aria Lawton (younger sister of Kahuranaki) and Harmony Hempel.  We hope they all enjoy their stay.

BEHAVIOUR NIGHT

On Monday 5.30 - 6.30pm we will be holding a session on behaviour.  The teachers will share some advice with you about how you can help us to improve behaviour in the school.  At the end of the session at approximately 6pm, we will provide everyone with pudding.  Children have been encouraged to come in their pyjamas.  They will watch a movie until the session is over.  We hope to have a big turnout.

PRINCIPAL PENS

Congratulations to this week’s winners!

SUPPORTER OF THE WEEK

Thank you to Kirsty Falwasser for volunteering to look after the basketball team last Thursday when the coach was going to be tied up with the speech finals.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

We have a considerable amount of lost property in the Hall, please check that you are not missing items.  Also, please ensure that all items are named, including shoes.

ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL

We have noticed some children arriving late to school.  A reminder that school starts at 8.55am.  It is really important that your child is here on time as continual lateness effects their learning.  Please try really hard to get your children to school on time.

THE EDUCATION REVIEW REPORT (ERO)

Last year the Education review Office sent a team of three to evaluate our school.  They produced a report in December 2009 with areas of progress and three recommendations.  For those of you that have not seen the report I have decided to add excerpts in the next few newsletters.  You can see the full report online at www.ero.govt.nz or a copy is available from the office.

What ERO said about school community partnership,

Senior managers and teachers collect and analyse student information and develop initiatives to encourage positive behaviour.  Senior students respond to issues that arise in the playground through peer mediation.  Teachers regularly review behaviour management information, adapting strategies, designing and modifying programmes to encourage purposeful participation and engagement.  Positive student behaviour is affirmed and celebrated.  Observation through teacher appraisal offers advice and guidance on effective classroom behaviour management strategies.  Implemented initiatives successfully support students’ ability to manage and take responsibility for their own behavior.
