We
cater for pupils in their first 6 years of schooling. We deliver the seven Curriculum areas of the
New Zealand Curriculum Framework, especially focusing upon Literacy and
Numeracy. We accept students who have a
sound basic grasp of the English
language and wish to immerse themselves in an English speaking environment.

enrolments for children 10 years old and younger living with their parents or
legal guardians.
Due to changes in
the ‘Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care
of International Students’ requirements we are unable to enrol children 11
years and over.
A
legal guardian is defined by the NZ Immigration Service as ‘the person the
child normally resides with in their home country’. Further information can be obtained from the
NZ Immigration Service.
Once a
student’s enrolment has been accepted the student and family must abide by

It is important that applications for enrolment be
made as early as possible so that they can be
properly considered and immigration information checked as necessary.
·
All applications will be processed as quickly as
possible, students may not start until application process has been completed.
·
Parents & Legal Guardians must make sure all
necessary enrolment documents and declarations are completed accurately.
·
Students must have the necessary visa’s, legal
documents (birth certificate and proof of legal guardianship) and insurances to cover their stay in NZ and
be enrolled as a fee paying student.
·
Students will not be able to start school unless
fees have been paid in full or a written guarantee has been received from
Employer or NZ Government sponsoring agency that full fees and expenses will be
paid on receipt of an invoice.
·
All students and families will receive a home
visit from the school coordinator or staff member on enrolment.
·
Families of foreign fee paying students may be
included in the orientation process as necessary or as negotiated with the
school.
·
An initial two week orientation program will be
provided which can include the following activities
o
Familiarisation with the school layout, systems
and staff.
o
School rules, procedures, pastoral care and support
systems.
o
An assessment in reading, writing, speech and level
of understanding of the English language.
o

Step 1
Applications for enrolment
can be made in person by:

student.

Applications should be received or made no later
than three weeks before expected enrolment date to ensure enrolment can be
approved before student arrives in
Applications from students living with their own
families in NZ will also be accepted for
immediate enrolment. Subject to other enrolment procedures being completed and
requirements met.
Step 2
If your application is
successful you will be sent or given, an Offer of Place, and an invoice for
tuition for the year or term required.
If you are unsuccessful you will also be notified using the same
procedure.
Generally those who apply
early have a better chance of a successful application.
Step 3
You should accept the
Offer of Place in writing. completing any additional documentation required and
send the fees to the school.
Fees may be paid to the
school by:

A bank cheque or cash.
·
Posting a bank draft to the above address.
·
Electronic transfer (we can supply bank account
details)
·
Providing written evidence that fees will be paid
on invoice by a NZ Government sponsoring agency.
Step 4
Awapuni Primary will acknowledge your enrolment and send a receipt for
fees paid.

When students arrive on
enrolment day at

Students will be met by school coordinator, buddy student and introduced to their class teacher, class and the orientation process will start. Students will be with their mainstream class from first day of enrolment.
Documentation
provided on enrolment day may be verified with NZ Immigration. If documentation is incorrect enrolment will
be terminated and fees will be returned less an administration fee of $100.

Once an
application for enrolment has been approved a student may not start school
until arrangements have been made for the payment of fees, in advance. A letter guaranteeing payment, on invoice,
from a NZ Government agency or recognised organisation may be acceptable.

every effort to ensure the students stay in
To be eligible
for a refund an application in writing must be made to the Principal by the
parents or legal guardian stating clearly the reasons for the withdrawal of the
student.
If the
withdrawal is made prior to the student coming to
There will be
no refund if a request to withdraw is made after the student has reached the
mid point of his / her period of enrolment.
In arriving at a decision
on a refund, the Principal will take into consideration:
· the reasons and
circumstances for withdrawal
·
costs already incurred by the school.
·
the salaries of teachers and support staff already
committed to their instruction.
·
an amount which covers facilities and resources to
date of withdrawal
· any possible refund of the International Student’s fee from the government.
Awapuni Primary
aims to make the students feel as
comfortable and secure as possible while they are away from home. We want students not only to reach proficiency
with their English and studies, but to also enjoy
Students upon
arrival will be welcomed and introduced to appropriate staff, principal, school
coordinator, class teacher and other staff the students will meet on a day to
day basis. Full orientation to the
school and our expectations and support systems will be explained to all
students. They will also be allocated a
‘buddy’ pupil to help them within the school and ease their way into mainstream
classes.
Classroom
Teachers and senior management closely support all students in conjunction with
our school coordinator.
Each student
will be assessed using our own internal procedures, and provided with a programme to
meet their individual needs. Full
records will be maintained.
Trained
Teachers will be the main providers of Students programmes and support staff
will assist them. Teachers at Awapuni
are familiar with accommodating International Students within their classes.
ESOL tuition
will be provided individually or in small groups according to students needs by
school’s ESOL teaching assistant. This programme is provided under direct
supervision of the schools special needs teacher.
We encourage
pupils to involve themselves with school and local sports and community
organisations. The school organises
Netball, hockey, cricket, t-ball, softball and miniball, with local clubs for
soccer and rugby. The Manawatu Taekwondo
Club operates locally two nights a week.
The school also has vibrant choir and Maori cultural group, which
International Students are encouraged to participate in.
International
Students will receive a written report in
November. Children enrolled for
short-term stays will be issued a brief report on the attitude to work,
relationships and some attainment comments.
We welcome contact with and legal guardians.
If an International
Student, parent or legal guardian of an international student is unhappy about
anything at school they should follow the following procedure:
1.Discuss the
matter with the school coordinator and or class teacher.
2. Students may
prefer to discuss the problem with ESOL tutor
3. Meet with the
Principal [Martin Elms] along with coordinator or class teacher.
4. At this point
we would undertake an internal process to investigate the concern or complaint.
5. Should the
issue not be resolved to the parent or legal guardian’s satisfaction then the complaint must be made
in writing to the Board of Trustees and an advocate will be offered to assist
in the process.
6.
Parents and legal guardians will be given every
assistance to access IEAA.

If you do not
belong to one of these categories and you receive medical treatment during your
visit, you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Therefore all students must have Health and
Travel Insurance for the duration of their stay in

policy will be asked for on enrolment.
Your policy
must include fee protection. The Board has a refunds policy for repayment of
unspent tuition fees should a students
